(foreigners in China)… conflict (冲突) resolution with locals?
i have always wondered this, so i am asking here…
how does conflict resolution between a chinese and foreigner work…
1) have you ever been in conflict with a local chinese?
2) if yes, was it at workplace or somewhere else…
3) was the conflict desirable…
4) how was the resolution achieved…
even if it was not personally you, and some other person you know, please share…

I’ve lived in China for many years as a tourist and I find it a beautiful and historical place — I’ve encountered very few problems here. I find that most conflicts that arise between locals and foreigners are the result of misunderstanding in communication. Nothing really jumps out in terms of significant conflict. The people are friendly and love talking to Westerners to practice their English.
I think the problems involving foreigners and locals mainly concern disputes involving the media, as the Chinese government is extremely censored, the flow of information that is allowed to be released to the public are incredibly secure, and, sometimes, not all true.
Also, this may sound random but I’ve also gone shopping in various places where it is customary to bicker over the cost of items with the shopkeeper, and in my experience, they generally sell things for a lower cost to local Chinese than to foreigners. It doesn’t really bother me very much, but I’d thought that I’d mention it.
Sorry for not following the format, but I find that in general the conflicts are minimal.
