Are business and environmental interests necessarily in conflict?
How can business and the environment interest conflicts be resolved? Any examples?
Yes. Let’s take this economy’s condition. Stock are dropping, people are losing money, so where do they go to get gifts? Walmart, Target, etc. Where do they get their items? China. And to get here you need to have a huge amount of fossil fuels;to package, transport to ports, ship, trow away. Cheap prices yes, but a huge environmental concern.
The best solution I always thought was to produce local. Wheter it’s food, household items, even cars, like they are doing now. That way you reduce transportation which is a HUGE environmental issue. I don’t understand why the greeting card I just got had to be shipped from China.

As long as greed is the driving force behind business we will have conflict with environmental concerns. What is needed is much stronger government willing to place restrictions on business and guide them in the right direction, kicking and screaming if needs be.
